, join us for a series of Astrophotography Workshops for the novice astrophotographer 
in Mayo Dark Sky Park! A prominent Astrophotographer will lead each workshop, providing a set of top tips for photographing Mayo’s dark skies.
Next up we welcome SHANE LAVELLE from Castlebar, Mayo:
Shane is an amateur astrophotographer from Castlebar, Co. Mayo and has been enjoying astrophotography as a hobby for the last 5 years. His main interest is capturing the night skies of county, Mayo, including the beauty of its landscapes, coasts and mountains under dark skies.
Shane’s favourite locations in Mayo to capture the night skies are the Mayo Dark Sky Park (Letterkeen and the Bangor trail) and Achill Island.
He is also interested in timelapse astrophotography showing the movement of the night skies and the transition of the landscape from daylight to dark skies.
In the workshop Shane will share share what he has learnt about capturing the night sky and his experiences in landscape astrophotography. He will talk about the basics of astrophotography, planning and shooting the night sky on location, camera settings and some image post processing techniques. Shane will also talk about how to capture and edit night sky timelapses.
Shane’s amazing work (see photos below) has been shortlisted on more than one occasion for the prestigious Reach for the Stars astrophotography competition, run by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS). We look forward to learning from him in Ballycroy on 16th October.
