Citizen Science - Mayo Dark Skies Campaign 2021

We are starting a new Citizen Science campaign as the darker evenings approach and looking for community volunteers! The project will require dark sky measurement and monitoring and also participating in a new research study from Germany called "Night Lights" to help measure the lighting emissions on ground level in designated areas across Mayo.

We are looking for volunteers in the following areas:

    • Achill Island
    • Ballycastle
    • Bangor Erris
    • Belmullet
    • Blacksod
    • Clare Island
    • Inishturk
    • Westport

It may also be possible to add further areas depending upon interest.

An online tutorial will be provided with training on light measurement via dedicated web app. We hope to have this in operation by late September and run through October/November.
